In a time when music venues around the capital struggle against closure
, the London College of Creative Media (LCCM) has announced plans for a new music venue to be constructed in South Bank. Named the ‘Music Box’, the state of the art building will provide a space for up-and-coming artists. It is expected to be completed by September, when it will be opened to the public for gigs and club nights. LCCM students will also have the opportunity to use the building for workshops, classes and performances. The college’s website
explains, “We plan to use our new creative space for a range of exciting events across the creative industries.” The plans follow a decade throughout which London has lost 40 per cent of its independent music venues.
